The Congress has urged the Central government to immediately implement 100% roster-based reservation for OBC, ST, SC, and EWS students in post-graduate (PG) courses at Goa Medical College (GMC) and Goa Dental College—a commitment they say Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had already made on the floor of the Assembly.
According to the party, despite the Chief Minister’s assurance that reservation would be notified “within a week,” more than three and a half months have passed, with no concrete action from the government. With PG counselling scheduled to end on November 27, the Congress has warned that it will stage a protest outside the Chief Minister’s official residence if the reservation order is not issued in time.
“BJP is systematically sidelining marginalised communities,” alleged Congress state president Amit Patkar. “In August, the Chief Minister publicly promised that the reservation would be implemented. That announcement brought hope to OBC, SC, ST and other weaker sections. But today, that hope has turned into disappointment.”
On Monday, Congress workers gathered at Azad Maidan to demand immediate notification of the reservation roster. Patkar accused the government of deliberately delaying the process, saying, “The hypocrisy is clear. The Medical Council of India has already announced the counselling schedule, but the government has still not acted. It appears they want to suppress the OBC, SC and ST communities by denying them their rightful share.”
The party maintains that the reservation system must be implemented before counselling concludes, to ensure that deserving candidates from marginalised groups are not left behind.
